Friday 16 June, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, was the occasion for the annual Celebration of Priesthood. Bishop Marcus led the Mass at Leeds Cathedral which marked this very special date in the diocesan calendar. He was joined by a large number of concelebrating clergy, including those priests celebrating a jubilee of ordination during 2023.
Our Jubilarians this year are:
- Fr Christopher Willis, Ruby Jubilee
- Fr Paul Reid, Golden Jubilee
- Mgr Kieran Heskin, Golden Jubilee
- Fr Eamon McGeough, Silver Jubilee
- Fr Neil Byrne, Silver Jubilee
- Fr Francis Smith, Silver Jubilee
At the end of today’s celebration, the Bishop dedicate a new memorial in the North Transept that recalls the life and ministry of Mgr Canon Peter McGuire (1932 – 2015) who was Dean of Leeds Cathedral from 1981 until 2003. In that same year, he was appointed a Protonotary Apostolic by Pope St John Paull II. To date, Mgr McGuire is the longest-serving Dean of the Cathedral.
